August 15, 2007

The lesson of today... Liam is NOT a stranger to work...hard work...and he is always up to the challenge, exceeding all goals and expectations.

Highlights of today:
Removal of central line in neck
Removal of IV line in left arm
Removal of Foley cath (you know where)
Physical Therapy began today
Liam sat up on the end of the bed
Later today Liam stood up and supported his own weight Liam then proceeded to sit straight up in a chair for 40 min.
He is mastering the 'Flutter' airway clearance device He is back to doing aggressive resp. therapies He had a bath (that was a gift to me!) He talked to Shannon & Dad on the phone He told me stories of his imaginary friends (good drugs!) He is in charge of his own pain medications now (push button) He can only remember 2 surgeries and he asked me to take pictures of all of his tubes, stitches (80+) and bandages so that he could see what it looked like.

The magic that we are expecting tomorrow is that the two drainage tubes will be removed (his body should be ready to absorb the additional post surgery fluids); and possibly getting him walking around the ward. His progress today was so stellar, we anticipate that he will be moving to the main floor sooner than we expected.

The lesson of today: Never underestimate the power of perseverance! (and prayer!!!)

Tonight I ask that you pray for SLEEP for all of us...
