August 16, 2007

I wish I could say that today was another day of great progress, but even the Lord God himself knew when it was time to rest.

Liam's monumental accomplishments over the past couple of days have been no less than miraculous. It is as if he has climbed to the top of mount Everest, return to the base and turned around to climb again - even more determined than before. Ill-equipped of experience and knowledge of what it takes to be a climber, but never losing sight of the goal - the beautiful peak at the top of the mountain which clearly touches the feet of heaven itself, is never outside of his reach.

Liam has been to heaven and back many times in his trials, and he alone knows the joy of reaching the top - I think that feeling of euphoria and self-pride is exactly why he continues to move forward so rapidly in his medical progress. After all, Liam was never one to just sit down on a ledge and look at the valley below, without keeping his eyes focused ahead at all of the majesty that the top of the mountain might offer. Bravo, Liam!

You are everything that a hero should be. You are patient and kind, respectful and loving, brave in the face of challenge and humble when given accolades. You have warmed the hearts of everyone who has come to know you here in Seattle, and clearly the beauty of the San Diego sunshine has followed you here to our second home. You make people feel good, your smile can turn their day around, your compliments catch them off guard and your genuine goodness seems to be contagious. It is such an honor for Daddy and me to watch the beauty that shines through you. Shine on, little man, and rest today so that your light may shine brightly again tomorrow.

God's gentle peace guide each of us as we rest in His mercy and goodness.
