"And on the 7th day, God rested...'
Liam is finally getting a little respite from his insomnia. Poor kiddo has been on so many medications that his body does not know how to react. At this moment I am sitting next to him as he sleeps, blindfolds on, beautiful Seattle Sunset just beginning to set in the west, and this adorably kwirky alligator stuffed animal with helium balloons attached, which Liam received from the McRoskey family today (Thank you!) He SWEARS that this alligator is a good-sleep luck charm. (Why do I ever question him??)
Medical update:
- Liver appears to still be in distress, with the key blood markers continuing to rise in spite of mega doses of prednisone. Doctors are still not alarmed and feel that it will just take a little more time...and even more prednisone (yech!)
- Blood Sugars are still quite high, but those, too are being micro-managed and corrected as needed.
- Eating is still a challenge, as Liam has no appetite after taking the millions of pills he now needs each day (We'll recap the meds once they are truly established - right now, they are changing once or twice a day).
- Liam still has a nasal gastric tube for his nutritional supplements - they may want to talk about putting in a new G-Tube, but that has not been decided as of yet.
- Back muscles are incredibly knotted and tight - Liam's physical therapist recommends that I take him (outside the hospital because it is not offered inside the hospital) to a massage therapist for a therapeutic deep tissue massage 1-3 times per week. The tension is causing these muscles to spasm and therefore he is having a difficult time standing straight, getting comfortable in bed or even in a chair, and in turn, lack of movement inhibits the bodies ability to heal.
Emotional update:
Liam misses home. He misses Dad, Shannon, Chloe. He misses all of his friends, his school (even his teachers!!). He is reminded daily that the worst is over and each day brings him one day closer to being home. Just watching him smile lifts my spirits in a million ways.
Prayer for tonight: That Liam is granted deep, rejuvinating sleep; that his liver and his body become unified and start working more together rather than against one another; That he wake up energized to celebrate the day.
Prayer for Nancy, Bill and Shannon: Perseverance.
