Tournament Rules

 

SUMMER SOLSTICE WIFFLE@ BALL TOURNMENT OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES 2 PERSON IIOVER THE UNE" DOUBLE ELIMINATION TOURNAMENT

PLAYERS
Two players per team.

AT-BAT POSmONS
Bat from home plate. Teammate pitches from anywhere in front of the home plate.

FIELDING POSmONS
Front fielders must play in front of "the line" to prevent ball from going past "the line." Back players may play anywhere past the line or its extensions.

HITS
a) Ball hit into fair territory on the fly without being caught by fielders. b) Any ground ball hit past the line without being fielded by the front fielder. c) Ground ball bobbled by the front fielder. d) Any ball touched and dropped by fielders regardless of whether the fielder is in or out of fair territory . e) Front fielder crossing the line or its extensions when attempting to field a ground ball (See Rule 11). £) Any ground ball hit past the line without being fielded cleanly by the front fielder. g) Ground balls hit past/ over the line into fair territory.

HOME RUNS
Ball hit over the home run line inside the foul poles.

OUTS
a) Three pitches per bat. Hitter is out if unsuccessful in getting a hit after three pitches. b) Fly balls caught by fielders. c) Ground balls fielded cleanly (not bobbled) by the front fielder. d) Ball hit ending up resting in out area without passing the line. e) Batting out of turn.

FOULS
a) Any ball landing outside "Out" or "Fair" areas on the fly. Foul line liners are foul. b) Any pitch taken. c) Any false pitch or "Balk:' d) Balls hitting foul territory even if ball rolls into "Out" territory or past "the line." e) Foul tips that hit batter and land in foul territory are foul. £) Balls landing in foul territory. g) Balls hitting out area then rolling foul.

SCORING
a) Four hits scores one run. Each additional hit in the same inning scores one more run. Home runs "Clear the Bases." b) Ball must be hit past/ over the line without being fielded cleanly whether on the fly or roll, to advance a runner or put a runner on base. c) Runners must be forced across plate to score a run.

LENGTH OF GAME
a) Games will be three innings or 20 minutes - whichever comes first (See Rule 16D). b) If tied after three innings, play extra innings. The team with the most hits in that final inning is the winner. If a tie exists in hits, play additional innings until tie is broken, either by hits or by runs. Runs take precedence over hits in this situation (i.e., a home run will beat 3 hits).

EQUIPMENT
a) No gloves to be used for fielding. Taping of hands and fingers is Permissible if no padding is used. b) No batting or golf gloves may be used for batting. c) Official Wiffle bats and balls only. Must use equipment provided by tournament. d) No taping bats.' .

CROSSING-OVER (",The Line")
a) To avoid penalty when fielding a ground ball, you must make a definite stop before crossing "The Line." If you catch a ball and your momentum carries you into or across the line, it is considered a run (See Rule 4E).

b) To avoid a penalty when fielding a fly ball, you must make a definite stop before crossing the "Home Run Line." If you catch a ball and your momentum ciuries you into or across the line, it is considered a home run (See Rule 4E).

ELIMINATION
a) Double elimination Team eliminated after second loss. After first loss, team entered into Losers Bracket. Winner of Losers Bracket and Winners Bracket play for championship.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
a) Championship game to be 4 innings (no time constraints). b) Best 2 out of 3. c) Winners Bracket champion to be home team in Championship Game.

LADIES/GENTLEMEN'S RULES PREVAIL
a) No cussing. b) No cheating. c) No whining. d) No showboating. e) No smoking. £) No chewing tobacco. g) Commissioner has the right to give or take away points at his discretion from player/team whose actions are not consistent with the purpose of this event, which is "To raising money to fund the research that will find the cure for Cystic Fibrosis in Liarn's lifetime."

PROTESTS
Any protests will be taken up with the Commissioner. Protest forms must be completed in detail and . submitted to Commissioner within 10 minutes of the completion of the game.

GENERAL
a) You must have a full team (two players) to start a game. b) No warming up on playing field. c) Teams have 5 minutes to report to player's field once their game has been announced. Teams failing to report within 5 minutes will forfeit that game. d) Teams charged with delay of game will be penalized in one of three ways (Commissioner discretion): Opponent allowed to bat an additionalY2 inning, regardless of time. Team disqualified and forced to forfeit the game. e) Decisions of the Wiffle@ Committee are final. Wiffle Commissioner hasJ;ina1say~ ' , £) Home team decided by Ro-Sham-Bo (best 2 of 3). g) Hits and home runs only - no doubles or triples. h) No walks. i) No one armed swinging. j) Absolutely no cleats.
